Why do we eat?  Some people eat for pleasure and comfort, others for self-punishment, some to provide food for the body and some starve their body of its basic needs for food.

Food has become a complex subject and one of great controversy, contradictions, confusion and public manipulation.

I believe the best approach is to keep is simple, do-able and what works for you.

So what are the basic needs from food that are important for healthy physical and mental function.

A personalized nutrition plan is the optimum approach to maintaining good health.  A few good rules to follow :

Each day have a good selection of fresh green leafy vegetables and as many coloured veggies as possible.

Fruits in season and eaten fresh is best.

Wild caught fish, grain fed beef, lamb and organic chicken.

Drink freshly made juices – preferably from vegetables as fruit juices are too concentrated in sugars.

The fiber and roughage from the juiced vegetables, can be added to soups or patties to ensure proper bowel function (very important aspect to good health).  For those that can digest smoothies, then once again, minimize fruits and use a variety of vegetables and berries.

Do you need to Supplement?

I believe that we can no longer get all the nutrition we need from eating food due to depleted nutrients in the soil, lengthy storage and highly processed foods that contain additives, toxic chemicals and preservatives that put an extra burden on the physical body.  To find nutritional supplements that are not synthetic and full of cheap fillers, but products that are manufactured to promote biological activity for restoring good health and preventing the myriad of modern age diseases has been a challenge.  I have spent a great deal of time researching, speaking with owners of companies and have requested validated data and information to substantiate the integrity and quality of their products.  In the information below I recommend nutritional supplements that can be trusted so browse through my Product section for the full range or click here: NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS

There are substances that are ‘essential’ to sustain a healthy life, these cannot be produced by the body therefore need to be provided through food on a daily of weekly basis.

HERE ARE THE ‘ESSENTIALS’

According to science there are over 50 essential nutrients for our bodies to function at optimal levels.  The basics are here:

Minerals from a plant source (Major Minerals & Trace Elements)

Omega Fatty Acids

Protein

Carbohydrates

Fat – to absorb fat-soluble essential vitamins – A, D, E, K

Vitamins – B’s & C

Water

Oxygen

A closer look at the essentials and important points:

Minerals – regulate the function of heartbeat, maintain internal pressure of body fluids, transport oxygen from lungs to tissues, nerve responses, strengthen bones, digestion etc  – your body needs minerals and trace minerals to function.  Without minerals you would not be able to utilize 99.7% of what you eat.   Health issue are more likely to occur due to mineral deficiency than vitamin deficiency.

The only minerals I recommend are from plant sources – these we can assimilate and uptake into our cells.  Your body requires a full spectrum of over 74 minerals so it can utilize the appropriate amounts of various minerals to create metabolic and chemical reactions and support the many functions of the body.  Taking one or a few of the major minerals can unbalance other vital amounts of minerals your body needs, hence should only be taken in acute cases and for a short period of time.

The product I use and recommend is Sisel SpectraMaxx – an Organic Fulvic Acid + 40 Antioxidants and 74 Essential Trace Minerals in a super concentrated super saturated liquid.  (see SpecraMaxx in Product Section) – Click Link here

Omegas – The best source of Omegas are from the ocean.  Plant oils such as linseed, primrose and hempseed, contain only shorter chain Omega 3 PUFA and very low levels of EPA and DHA.

So what health benefits can be gained from Omegas Fatty Acids?  People suffering from the following diseases may benefit:

Arthritis                                    Depression/Bi-Polar                        Inflammation

Asthma                                    Diabetes                                         Osteoporosis

Attention disorders                  Digestive problems                         Skin Disorders

Blood Pressure                       Heart & Vascular                             Some Cancers

There are many more benefits but I think from the above you can conclude why its important and essential to good health.

Any product that is labeled ‘Fish Oil’ is produced from sardines, pilchards, and other fish that are pressed to extract the oil.  This includes all parts of the fish!  This type of oil generally contains many toxic properties including mercury.  Some oils may be purified from heavy metals but not from other undesirables present in whole fish.

The best source I have found is  Sisel Supra Omega Plus.  The reason being that this product contains Omegas from Sea Algae, Wild Salmon, Krill and Sea Buckthorn, fortified with CoQ10, Vit D3 and a few other very beneficial ingredients.  This product is purified through a process that keeps the goodness in tact and contains no mercury, toxins or other impurities. (see SupraOmega Plus in my Products section)

Protein – is needed for repair of tissue and is an important component of every cell in your body. Protein is used to make enzymes, hormones and other biochemical processes and is the building block of bones, muscles, skin and blood.  Your body does not store protein, therefore, having no reserves, it needs to be supplied through daily intake.

Protein can be found in many foods – the only catch is most people suffer from digestive insufficiency and lack digestive acid and enzymes to break down proteins.  People over 35 year of age have diminished hydrochloric acid (HCl) that is needed to digest proteins.  Food poisoning and infections can damage the cells that make HCl as well as the gut flora can be destroyed through use of antibiotics, stress and other factors.

So what is the solution?  Once again I recommend supplementing with a high quality protein powder daily or 2 to 3 times a week, depending on your lifestyle and need.  One thing I do not recommend is soy as it is estrogenic, therefore, affects hormones, including the thyroid.  High intake of Isoflavones in soy have been linked to endometriosis, fibroids and infertility.  Being high in phytic acid it reduces absorption of vital nutrients.

The best I have been able to find is SiseLean – here’s why.  Milk only from grass grazing cows is used. It is the only whey protein that uses a multi stage filtration system that removes 600 of the 1200 components of whey that are taxing on your health and energy eg lactose, puss, antibiotics etc.  The protein is not exposed to temperatures over 41 degrees Celsius as that would denature the protein molecule. This results in a protein powder that is pure and easily assimilated and absorbed at a cellular level.  It can be used as a meal replacement and contains 1/3 of the daily required nutrients.  It does not contain synthetic vitamins or fillers and what is not in a product is just as important as what is in a product. (see SiseLean in Product section to order)

Carbohydrates – are a fuel source for the brain, and give the body energy to work the heart, lungs kidneys, muscles etc.  The best sources are from fruits, starchy vegetables, sugars and grains.  These days most people find it very difficult to digest grains.  Wheat has been genetically modified and altered 300 times from its original grain and most grains have been genetically altered to provide better yields, be pest and chemical resistant etc. etc.

My suggestion is to minimize or stop eating grains if you find you cannot digest them.  Anything you cannot digest will eventually create illness.  Eat vegetables and fruits and a good variety of healthy foods eg sweet potatoes, potatoes, bananas, cottage cheese, eggs etc.

Fats – Eating good fat is important to brain function, gallbladder and liver, healthy skin and much more.  It is true some fats are bad for you, these include margarine, canola oil and vegetable shortening.  Research fro the Harvard School for Public Health indicates that trans fats can harm health in even small amounts.  This includes French fries, battered and fried take away foods. Look for hydrogenated oils on labels and stay away from such products!

The good fats are obtained from: Olive oil, Sesame oil, Sunflower oil, Avocados, sprouted (or activated) nuts and seed butters….and…. yes butter, raw milk (goats being best) and coconut oil.

B Group Vitamins  – Generally B vitamins are found in whole unprocessed foods. The best sources are meats such as turkey, tuna and liver.  Legumes and whole grains also contain B group vitamins, however as these may be hard to digest, it is important to take digestive enzymes or prepare them in a way that will assist with digestion (using spices and herbs).  Vit B12 is not available from plant sources therefore people consuming vegetarian diets, may need to supplement.  Finding a good source of B12 may challenging.  According to the latest research  Methylcobalamin is the most bio-available form.  Only supplement this if you are deficient.

Vitamin C – fresh off the tree citrus is best – be sure to eat the pith. Getting a food source Vit C from various colours ensuring the freshest raw food is the optimum way to get Vit C. The Ascorbic Acid that is most common source in supplements is very harsh on the body.  There is information on Liposome-encapsulated Vit C to be a good choice also sodium ascorbate can generally be well tolerated if taken daily when needed.

Water and Oxygen – Between 50% and 75% of your body is water.  Without adequate amounts of oxygen your body cannot survive.  This may sound obvious but most people are dehydrated.  Drinking 2 glasses of pure warm water first thing in the morning can make a big difference to your digestion and overall wellbeing.

Learning to breath properly (not just shallow chest breathing as most people do) will increase physical vitality and mental distress.

BRAIN HEALTH – a vital part of keeping your body healthy – all illnesses have an effect on brain and mental function.  These days I consider it one of the most important organs to keep function at peak levels.  Personally I take a supplement that provides the nutrients for optimum brain function and deals with the byproducts of stress upon the brain.  This also ensures the prevention of Dementia, Alzheimers, brain fag and provides focus and clarity of thought.  Sisel Brain Vitality has science backed finding for supporting the brain in the manner I have just described and can be of support to all ages including the elderly and the scholarly.
